E-Berkeley

The E-Berkeley Initiative’s goal is to use the power of the web to transform the way UC Berkeley operates, from its day-to-day functions to its central mission of teaching and research. E-Berkeley is an ongoing project, guided by the needs and input of UC Berkeley students, faculty, staff, alumni, and business partners. E-Berkeley’s major objectives include:

E-Berkeley will achieve these objectives by taking informed risks that include investing aggressively in staff, infrastructure, information technology (IT), and communications. More information on E-Berkeley, its governance, architecture, policies, and the projects currently underway can be found on the Initiative’s web site at http://eberkeley.berkeley.edu/.

The E-Berkeley Projects Office (http://eberkeley.berkeley.edu/suggestions.html) is working to improve communications and facilitate collaboration between central units and departments on campus that are involved in the development of IT projects. As part of this effort, a web-based project registration system has been developed on which administrative officials are encouraged to record their technology projects early in the planning phase. The system will notify collaborating units about possible upcoming projects requiring their participation, and allow searches of the database to see if similar projects have already been carried out on campus. After a project is registered, the E-Berkeley Projects Office can help administrative officials identify campus resources to assist with funding, business process redesign, technical planning, and project management. To learn more, visit the registration web site at http://eberkeley.berkeley.edu.

Additional information about E-Berkeley’s governance, architecture, policies can be found at the following web sites:

The E-Berkeley Interim Policy (http://socrates.berkeley.edu:7015/e-Berkeley.policy.html) outlines relevant information to guide UC Berkeley departments when creating their online presence. It applies to all electronic resources owned or managed by UC Berkeley and all electronic resources provided by the campus through contracts and other agreements. More information can be found in the Web-based Activities section in this Guide.
