How do I sign up for the FMCP program?
New Cohorts are formed twice in a calendar year (check our calendar for upcoming Cohorts). Applications are accepted during an enrollment period that begins approximately six weeks prior to the beginning of a new Cohort. If you are interested in applying to the program, you must complete the application, receive approval from your supervisor (e.g., chair, director, dean), and submit your application to the appropriate Control Unit Manager during the enrollment period. Each Control Unit Manager will determine the enrollment priority for prospective participants. See more information about enrollment.
How do I sign up for classes once I've been accepted into the FMCP program?
You will receive class registration information via e-mail one to two months prior to the class date. E-mails are sent to participants based on the schedule for your cohort. Participants are strongly encouraged to complete as many classes as possible with their cohort, both as a learning support mechanism and to avoid prolonging program completion. However, if you miss a class, we will automatically invite you to the next class offered.
Once you have been selected into the FMCP, you can go to the UCB Learning Center to register for FMCP classroom courses, and take the FMCP on-line courses, quizzes and assessments as they apply.
- Login to the Blu portal (CalNet ID required).
- Select UCB Learning Center from the Self Service link.
- Locate the category, Business and Operations, and click on the sub-category, Financial Management and Internal Controls.
All courses that count toward the FMCP certificate will have "FMCP" in front of the title. Most of the classes are held in the Alumni House's Toll Room from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
How can I see all the available courses in the UCB Learning Center?
Only active FMCP participants and alumni can view and register for FMCP classroom courses, and take the FMCP on-line courses, quizzes and assessments. Course titles begin with "FMCP" and are listed in alphabetical order. For example, the on-line cost transfers course is entitled, "FMCP Managing Cost Transfers". Please note that in order to get full credit for attending a Core or Elective classroom course, FMCP participants must complete the on-line assessment for that course. Similarly, in order to receive full credit for completing an on-line course, FMCP participants must complete the on-line quiz for that course. On-line courses derived from the FMCP are available to and can be viewed by all staff members on campus. These "all UCB audience" courses do not have "FMCP" in front of the title, and do not count as credit toward the FMCP certificate.
How can I see all the available assessments in the UCB Learning Center?
On-line FMCP Core and Elective Assessments are open to FMCP participants only after attendance at classes has been completed. In order to get full credit for attending an FMCP Core or Elective classroom course, FMCP participants must complete the on-line FMCP Assessment for that course. You can locate the FMCP assessments through the UCB Learning Center Home page.
- Login to the Blu portal (CalNet ID required).
- Select UCB Learning Center from the Self Service link.
- Locate the category, Business and Operations, and click on the sub-category, Financial Management and Internal Controls.
All assessments will have "FMCP" in front of the title.
What are the on-line assessments all about?
The on-line assessments test the participant's understanding of the concepts discussed in class. Each core and elective class has an on-line assessment which can be accessed through the UCB Learning Center. The assessments consist of multiple choice questions and are only available after the participant has attended the course. The assessments are not designed to allow a participant to "test out" of a class. All required assessments must be completed before taking the final examination.
Does the UCB Learning Center display which on-line courses I have completed?
The UCB Learning Center does not display on-line courses you have completed. However, you can now view an Attendance Report of all FMCP courses you have completed, including Core, Elective, Assessments and Quizzes. This report is in a password protected PDF file that is updated monthly. If you do not have the password, please request it from fmcp@berkeley.edu.
What happens if my group "fails" the midterm?
If the review committee deems a presentation unsatisfactory, the group can come back for a second time. If the review committee feels that the group still does not grasp the required concepts, the review committee will suggest the individuals retake one or more of the core courses. It is unlikely that individuals falling short on the midterm will be able to be successful on the final examination without further effort.
What happens if I "fail" the final examination?
A minimum score of 75% on the final examination is necessary to pass this capstone requirement. Participants are allowed to view their finals to understand how and why they received their score. Participants that do not attain a passing mark may attempt a second final, similar, but different, than the first. Success on the final is necessary to graduate from the FMCP.
Each cohort contains 40 participants nominated by their control unit.
