BFS Business Systems
The BFS upgrade is primarily a technical upgrade. The upgrade will make the software current, improve security, and ensure that BFS continues to be supported by Oracle.
The key changes include:
- A tile-based menu, without breadcrumbs, for the homepage.
- An updated worklist function, with a more streamlined filter.
Logging in to BFS
Log in to BFS directly using this direct link to BFS.
It is no longer possible to login through BLU. If you log in directly to BFS and try to log in to BLU, Human Capital Management (HCM), or Campus Solutions (BCS) using the same browser, you’ll be logged out of BFS. We recommend using different browsers for each of these systems if you are logging in to them simultaneously.
Home page navigation
The default BFS home page will now feature tile-based navigation. The home page tiles are organized by job function and frequently accessed pages so that you can find what you need without clicking through a long menu. The icons at the top right of the page include a home page icon that will take you back to the home page, a notification icon that will display a list of actions to be taken, and a compass icon that will allow you to access recent pages, favorites, and a “navigator” which displays a more traditional menu.
Benefits of upgrade
We’ve simplified the navigation so that everything you want to find should require minimal clicking.
The “Worklist” feature has been replaced with two new options:
The Approvals tile where rather than filtering from the dropdown menu at the top, you’ll click the filter button and choose filters from a condensed pop-up menu that will require less clicking. From the Approvals page, you’ll be able to approve selections in a list rather than clicking inteach individual transaction to approve or deny.
The GL Approvals Workcenter which can only be used for approving journals, but does allow for filtering your Org Node.
On the “Award Profile” page, the title "Post Award Administrator" is now “Research Administrator.”
Research Administrators (RAs) can update the RA associated with an award themselves.
What has not changed
Your saved favorites.
The pages where you conduct your work.
Your current access.
Some of the features of the old BFS home page included customizations of the software created by the BFS team to address a specific need. With the upgrade, many of these will not be necessary any longer. However, a few customizations may still be beneficial to the user experience and the project team is currently reviewing the following features:
Simplified Analytics – This allows users the ability to create their own reports based on pre-defined templates. They select fields, fill in prompts, define the layout and select from different types of visualizations.
Page and Field Configurator – This feature creates the ability to organize pages without customizations. The BFS team is currently reviewing various options for implementation, including the ability to make fields display only or to hide the fields altogether, to make fields required or change field labels.
Activity Guides – These guides outline step-by-step processes within PeopleSoft (BFS) that take users through activities one step at a time in the correct sequence.
Fluid eBill Pages
The goal of this project is to provide a financial software platform using current technology to simplify work, improve security, and ensure continued Oracle support. The end result should improve the user experience by saving time, reducing costs, and improving issue resolution.
