Lived Names in BFS

Overview

Across the University of California, students, staff and faculty have advocated for changes to make UC more equitable and inclusive. In a significant step toward this goal, President Michael V. Drake, M.D., has announced a new presidential policy to ensure that all individuals are identified by their accurate gender identity and lived or preferred name on university-issued documents and in UC’s information systems.

Faculty and staff who live with a name that is not their legal name may enter that name as their preferred name in UCPath.

Lived Names in BFS

As a first step in implementing this policy in BFS, the Card Program and all Approvals functions present the preferred name for employees who have a preferred name in UCPath.

If you are searching for an employee in the Card Program or an Approvals function and cannot find the employee, try searching for the employee using their preferred name.

Preferred names will be implemented in all BFS functions over time. The Gender Recognition and Lived Names Policy requires this work to be completed by December 31, 2023.
