Overview
From the BFS home page, you can search the menu to find a function that is not represented by a tile button. The November 2022 upgrade extends the global search functionality to enable searches for specific transactions from the home page.
Keyword search allows you to search keywords from within a transaction.
Global Search: Menu
When you need to use a function and the tile button is not on the homepage, you can use the search feature to find it without having to navigate through the menu structure.
1. Enter Your Search Text
Enter the text you want to search for in the 'Search in Menu' input field.
The 'Search in Menu' input field is located at the top of the window in the center.
2. BFS will Display Matches
As you type, BFS will display a list of matches, starting with the first item that matches the text you entered.
3. Select an Item
Select an item from the list to open the function, or click the Search button, which is represented by an image of a magnifying glass, to generate a list of search results.
4. View Search Results
After clicking the Search button, BFS will display a list of the pages that you have access to that match the search criteria.
In the folder section, you can filter the search results further by module, by selecting the check box next to the module.
Select a search result link in the View Search Results section to navigate to that page.
Global Search: Transactions
To locate transactions quickly, you can search for a sponsor, customer, award, contract, grant, voucher, or journal from the BFS home page.
1. Click the Menu Button
From the BFS home page, click the Menu button at the top of the page. The Menu button is also a drop-down list.
2. Select 'All'
In the Menu drop-down list, select 'All,' which is the first item in the Content section. BFS will now search all transactions by the entry in the 'Search in Menu' input field.
3. Enter a Transaction ID
In the 'Search in Menu' input field, enter the ID for a sponsor, customer, award, contract, grant, voucher, journal, etc.
Click the Search button, which is represented by an image of a magnifying glass, to search all associated transactions.
4. Open a Transaction
BFS will present a list of transactions that contain the keywords in the search. Click a link to open a transaction, or use the filters on the left to focus the results further.
Keyword Search
Within many transactions, you can search by keyword in addition to finding an existing value. The Keyword Search tab allows you to search on keywords that you enter in the text box.
1. Click the 'Keyword Search' Tab
From the Create/Update Journal Entries page, click the 'Keyword Search' tab.
2. Enter the Keywords
From the Search Criteria section, enter the keywords you wish to search for in the 'Keywords' input field.
3. Advanced Search
The 'Advanced Search' button below the 'Keywords' input field will expand the window, allowing you to filter different columns in the transaction.
The top of the list has the same columns as on the Find an Existing Value tab, followed by several additional columns.
